Recap: Louisiana vs. Ark-Little Rock

Lafayette, LA (SportsNetwork.com) - Elfrid Payton racked up 23 points, 10 rebounds, six assists and four blocks as the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns outlasted the Arkansas-Little Rock Trojans for a 93-87 double-overtime victory in a Sun Belt Conference thriller at the Cajundome.

Xavian Rimmer chipped in 20 points for the Ragin' Cajuns (16-9, 7-5 SBC) while Bryant Mbamalu netted 14 points. The win was the fourth in a row for Louisiana.

Josh Hagins tallied 24 points, eight boards and six assists for UALR (12-13, 7-6), which was without leading scorer and rebounder Will Neighbour due to an ankle sprain. DeVonte Smith added 16 points, Maurius Hill scored 15 and Ben Dillard had 10 points. Stetson Billings pulled down a game-high 11 boards as the Trojans suffered their third consecutive setback.

Louisiana controlled the opening frame as it hit on 51.9 percent of its field goal attempts and converted 14-of-20 tries at the charity stripe en route to a 47-35 halftime lead. The Trojans fell behind after they were limited to 41.2 percent efficiency from the floor in the first period.

The Ragin' Cajuns cooled off to shoot just 40 percent from the field in the second half. UALR heated up to sink 44.4 percent of its attempts from the floor. The Trojans were trailing, 64-53, with 7:45 left in regulation before they used a 15-6 run to almost completely erase the deficit. Hagins connected on a shot from beyond the arc with 48 seconds remaining in the second period to even the score at 72 and the contest progressed into overtime after both sides had jumpers fall off the mark in the closing seconds.

In the first extra session, Payton made a jumper with two seconds showing on the game clock to give the Ragin' Cajuns an 80-78 lead. However, Payton then fouled Hagins, who converted both of his shots at the charity stripe to tie the score and force another overtime period.

Louisiana forced the visitors into back-to-back turnovers in the second overtime and converted the miscues into five points to put the game out of reach. The Ragin' Cajuns made good on 13-of-17 free-throw attempts following the conclusion of the second half.

Despite playing without Neighbour, UALR still finished with a 44-36 edge in total rebounds. The Ragin' Cajuns registered 48 attempts at the charity stripe as five different Trojans were disqualified with five personal fouls.
