Recap: FIU vs. Georgia State

Miami, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - Dennis Mavin converted a game winning 3-point play with 1:03 left as the FIU Panthers narrowly beat the Georgia State Panthers 61-60 at the U.S. Century Bank Arena.

Tymell Murphy had a double-double with 23 points and 11 boards and Mavin added 14 points for FIU (7-3). Jason Boswell chipped in 11 points and Rakeem Buckles brought down a career-high 17 rebounds.

Georgia State (2-4) was led by Ryan Harrow's 21 points. R.J. Hunter added 17 points while Manny Atkins had 11. Curtis Washington cleaned up the glass with 14 boards.

Georgia State did not shoot well, only making 31 percent of its field goal attempts in the first period. FIU's 10 first half turnovers helped make it a 27-27 tie at the half as FIU shot a superior 44 percent from the floor.

FIU shot 46.7 percent from the field after the break but only made 1-of-7 from 3-point range. Georgia State made 44.8 percent of its shots from the floor while going 3-of-9 from behind the 3-point line. After Mavin's shot, Buckles scored to put the home team up 61-58 with 30 seconds. Harrow made a layup with 20 seconds left to cut the lead to only one but Georgia State failed to make its final shot, sealing the win for FIU.

FIU won despite turning the ball over 21 times while Georgia State only turned it over seven times.
