Recap: Arkansas State vs. Niagara

Jonesboro, AK (SportsNetwork.com) - Kendrick Washington scored 16 points in leading the Arkansas State Red Wolves to an 86-61 rout of the Niagara Purple Eagles in a non-conference affair at the Convocation Center.

Washington also had eight rebounds and six assists for Arkansas State (5-2). Brandon Reed added 15 points, Raeford Worsham tacked on 14 off the bench and Melvin Johnson II made up for a 2-of-8 shooting night with 10 rebounds.

Antoine Mason scored a game-high 20 points to pace Niagara (1-7) but he also turned the ball over six times. Marvin Jordan chipped in 14 points.

In the first half the Red Wolves forced 10 turnovers and held Niagara to a 31 percent shooting effort from the floor. Arkansas State netted 44.4 percent of its own field goal tries to enter the locker room leading 45-26.

After the break the Red Wolves still shot a pedestrian percentage from the field (.423) but Niagara continued to struggle with its own shot, hitting on only 32.4 percent from the floor.

Arkansas State outscored Niagara, 22-5, off turnovers. In fact the Purple Eagles did not score a single point off a takeaway until the second half.
