Recap: Texas-El Paso vs. FIU

El Paso, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Vince Hunter scored 21 points and Julian Washburn added 20 for the Texas-El Paso Miners in their 84-71 triumph over the FIU Panthers in Conference USA action at the Don Haskins Center.

C.J. Cooper contributed 17 points and six assists for UTEP (19-7, 9-2 C-USA), which has won nine of its last 10. Cedrick Lang helped out with 12 points and eight rebounds.

Rakeem Buckles tallied 19 points, but also seven turnovers for FIU (13-13, 5-6), which has lost four of its last five. Tymell Murphy and Dennis Mavin each had 12 points and Jerome Frink chipped in 11.

The Miners entered halftime, leading, 39-21. They shot a scorching 66.7 percent from the floor in the first half, while limiting their foes to 30.8 percent.

The Panthers rallied a bit in the second, shooting 51.4 percent from the field. However, they went just 2-of-12 from 3-point range, while allowing UTEP to connect on 48 percent from the floor.

FIU lost despite scoring 22 points off of turnovers. UTEP won the rebounding battle, 35-29.
