Recap: FIU vs. North Texas

Miami, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - Chris Jones sank a runner just before the buzzer to lift the North Texas Mean Green to a 65-63 victory over the FIU Panthers in a Conference USA thriller at FIU Arena.

Jones finished with 10 points, seven assists and three steals for UNT (13-13, 4-8 C-USA). Jordan Williams posted 16 points and nine rebounds, while Alzee Williams contributed 14 points. Colin Voss added 10 points and six boards.

For the Panthers (13-14, 5-7), Tymell Murphy led all scorers with 31 points. Rakeem Buckles recorded a double-double with 13 points and 13 boards.

The Mean Green took a 34-28 lead into the break after they shot 48.3 percent from the floor in the opening 20 minutes of the contest. FIU managed to make good on only 36.7 percent of its field goal tries in the first half.

The Panthers heated up to shoot 42.9 percent from the floor, but went just 1- of-9 from 3-point range in the second period. UNT led by 10 with 2:17 left to play before FIU surged back. Murphy tied the score with a make from beyond the arc with 22.3 seconds remaining in regulation before Jones's late game heroics.

The Mean Green enjoyed a 37-34 edge in the rebounding battle.
