Recap: Arkansas State vs. South Alabama

Jonesboro, AR (SportsNetwork.com) - Kirk Van Slyke tallied a double-double with 21 points and 14 rebounds, as the Arkansas State Red Wolves took down the South Alabama Jaguars, 72-60, in a Sun Belt Conference clash at the Convocation Center.

Ed Townsel contributed 12 points and 10 boards for ASU (10-5, 3-1 Sun Belt), which has won five of six. Melvin Johnson III came off the bench to score 12 points for the home team.

For South Alabama (6-11, 0-4), losers of five straight, Aakim Saintil was the only player in double figures with 10 points.

ASU shot 42.9 percent from the field in the first half, much better than the Jaguars' 29.6 percent, as it went into the halftime locker room with a 33-25 advantage.

South Alabama brought its deficit to seven early in the second half, but it would get no closer. The Red Wolves pulled away late in the game with an 8-0 run.

ASU held a 41-33 rebounding advantage over South Alabama and outscored it in the paint, 28-14.
