Recap: Louisiana Tech vs. Louisiana

Ruston, LA (SportsNetwork.com) - Kasey Shepherd scored a game-high 22 points off the bench as the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns captured an 89-80 win over the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs in non-conference action at Thomas Assembly Center.

Shawn Long and Elfrid Payton both recorded double-doubles for the Ragin' Cajuns (6-2) as each scored 17 points and the former pulled down 12 rebounds, two more than the latter. Xavian Rimmer pitched in with 15 points and Kevin Brown 10 in the team's fourth straight win.

The Bulldogs (6-2) were paced by Alex Hamilton and his 17 points on 6-of-17 shooting from the floor. Raheem Appleby also had a tough time from the field (6-of-19) as he dropped in 15 points, followed by Kenyon McNeail and Kenneth Smith with 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Louisiana Tech never led in the meeting and with just 1-of-6 shooting behind the 3-point line in the first half, found itself with a 44-39 deficit at the break.

In the second half the accuracy went from 16.7 percent on the perimeter to 21.4 percent (3-of-14), but still it wasn't enough to get the Bulldogs back in contention.

The difference in the contest came at the free-throw line where Louisiana held a 22-12 scoring advantage.
