Recap: Texas-El Paso vs. Louisiana Tech

El Paso, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Vince Hunter scored 26 points and pulled down nine rebounds as the Texas-El Paso Miners captured an 89-79 win over the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs in Conference USA play at the Don Haskins Center.

Julian Washburn accounted for 21 points for the Miners (15-6, 5-1 C-USA) as they posted a fifth straight win and the 10th victory in the last 11 outings overall. C.J. Cooper posted 17 points, five assists and four steals, while John Bohannon registered a double-double with 13 points and 11 boards.

The Bulldogs (17-5, 5-2) were paced by Chris Anderson and Alex Hamilton with 17 points apiece, followed by Jaron Johnson with 15 and six boards. Although he shot only 2-of-8 from the floor and finished with five points, Kenneth Smith, contributed with a game-high nine assists as Louisiana Tech had a two- game win streak snapped.

The Miners shot only 7-of-17 at the free-throw line in the first half, but countered with 55.2 percent accuracy from the floor, including 4-of-6 behind the 3-point line, in order to claim a 43-36 advantage at the break.

In the second half the hosts picked up the pace from the field (.571) and also performed much better at the charity stripe (21-of-28), en route to the double-digit victory.

The Bulldogs shot just 8-of-33 beyond the arc for the contest and were outscored at the line, 28-15.
