Recap: Marshall vs. UNC-Wilmington

Huntington, WV (SportsNetwork.com) - Led by a game-high 35 points from Elijah Pittman, the Marshall Thundering Herd downed the UNC Wilmington Seahawks, 96-78, as part of the Roundhouse Classic at Cam Henderson Center.

For the Thundering Herd (3-2), Kareem Canty added a double-double with 19 points and 10 assists, Chris Thomas scored 15 points and Ryan Taylor posted a double-double of his own with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

Addison Spruill led the Seahawks with 19 points, while Cedrick Williams finished with 18, Freddie Jackson added 11 points and Ben Eblen chipped in with 10.

Marshall had the hot hand in the first half, connecting on 60 percent of its field goal tries, including 8-of-13 from beyond the 3-point arc. The Herd finished the half on an 18-2 run and took a commanding lead at halftime, 48-29. UNCW shot just 40.6 percent from the field in the first half and missed all three of its 3-point tries.

The Seahawks made 55.9 percent of their shots from the field but again struggled from long-range, missing all five opportunities. The Thundering Herd continued to shoot the ball well, making 58.1 percent of their field goal tries, including 3-of-6 from 3-point range. Marshall led by double figures for the entire second half, pushing its lead to as many as 21, as it snapped a two-game losing streak.

The Herd outscored the Seahawks from 3-point distance, 33-0. The Seahawks had an edge down low, outscoring Marshall in the paint, 46-38.
