Recap: Middle Tennessee vs. South Alabama

Murfreesboro, TN (SportsNetwork.com) - Neiko Hunter and Kerry Hammonds scored 14 points apiece, as the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders rallied for a 65-55 win over former Sun Belt Conference rival South Alabama at the Murphy Center.

Hunter and Hammonds combined for 15 rebounds, while teammate Tweety Knight tallied 12 points and seven boards in the win. Jacquez Rozier added 10 points on 4-of-5 shooting off the bench to help the Blue Raiders (6-1) improve to 5-0 at home.

The Jaguars (4-3) came up short in their bid for a third straight win, despite a game-high 15 points and nine rebounds from Augustine Rubit. Reserve Aakim Saintil chipped in with 14 points, while Mychal Ammons scored seven and pulled down 10 boards.

USA led by as many as 11 in the first half and took a 34-26 lead into the break after holding Middle Tennessee to 34.5-percent shooting from the floor in the opening frame.

However, the Jaguars went ice-cold in the second stanza and made only 4-of-32 shots (.125) over the final 20 minutes. The Blue Raiders made their move with a 13-0 second-half run as they held USA without a field goal over the final nine minutes.

MT, which is playing in its first season as a member of Conference USA after winning last year's Sun Belt title, further helped its cause by sinking 23- of-29 free throws (.793) for the game.
