Recap: South Alabama vs. Louisiana

Mobile, AL (SportsNetwork.com) - Augustine Rubit registered 21 points on 7- of-10 shooting and grabbed nine rebounds as the South Alabama Jaguars defeated the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns, 81-73, in a Sun Belt Conference tilt at the Mitchell Center.

Ken Williams added 18 points for the Jaguars (7-11, 1-4 Sun Belt), who snapped a six game losing streak. Aakim Saintil scored 15 points and Antoine Allen had 12 and six rebounds.

Elfrid Payton tallied 18 points, seven rebounds and six assists for the Ragin' Cajuns (11-6, 2-2). Shawn Long logged a double-double with 15 points and 10 boards, while Kevin Brown had 14 points.

The Jaguars drained 60 percent of their shots from the floor in the first half and led at the break, 39-30. Louisiana struggled, making just 33.3 percent of its field goal tries in the half, but stayed in the game by making 5-of-10 from 3-point range.

USA stayed hot in the second period, connecting on 58.3 percent of its field goal attempts. The home squad never trailed in the second stanza, and coasted to the win.

The Jaguars played better inside by outscoring Louisiana 40-32 in the paint. South Alabama survived a dismal 26 team turnovers.
