Murfreesboro, TN (SportsNetwork.com) - Shawn Jones scored 22 points and pulled down nine rebounds as the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders slipped by UAB in overtime, 89-84, in Conference USA play at the Murphy Center.

Kerry Hammonds converted 5-of-10 behind the 3-point line as he tallied 17 points for the Blue Raiders (11-5, 1-0 C-USA), followed by Reggie Upshaw and Neiko Hunter with 15 and 12 points, respectively, as the team won for the third time in as many games.

Chad Frazier led all scorers with 28 points for the Blazers (11-4, 0-1), converting 11-of-14 shots from the floor, including 5-of-8 beyond the arc on the evening. CJ Washington pitched in with 15 points and eight rebounds, followed by Rod Rucker, Robert Williams and Tosin Mehinti with 10 points each.

Both teams shot the ball well from the field overall in the first half, but with just 1-of-5 accuracy on the perimeter the Blazers found themselves with a 36-32 deficit at the break. Middle Tennessee converted 5-of-12 on the outside through the first 20 minutes.

The second half saw the Blue Raiders connect on an impressive 59.3 percent from the floor, but the visitors were even better at 63.6 percent. Down by four with under two minutes left in regulation, UAB knotted the score at 77-77 thanks to a layup by Washington and two clutch free throws from Williams.

Thanks to a layup and a free throw in the final minute of overtime by Upshaw, the hosts managed to come away with the hard-fought victory.

In a game that featured eight ties and seven lead changes, the Blazers cost themselves a shot at the victory by turning the ball over a staggering 22 times.
