Recap: BYU vs. North Texas

Provo, UT (SportsNetwork.com) - Tyler Haws led five teammates in double figures with 23 points as the BYU Cougars made easy work of the North Texas Mean Green, 97-67, at the Marriott Center.

Eric Mika and Kyle Collinsworth both scored 17 points for BYU (7-2), which has won back-to-back games. Skyler Halford netted 16 points on 3-of-5 from 3-point range, while Nate Austin added 10 points and 13 rebounds for the home team. Mika chipped in 11 boards to his stellar effort, while Matt Carlino also had a double-double with 11 assists and 10 rebounds.

For North Texas (5-4), Maurice Aniefiok netted 11 points, while Vertrail Vaughns, Chris Jones and T.J. Taylor all put up nine points.

BYU outshot North Texas from the field in the first half, 48.6 percent to 39.0 points, as it carried a 42-35 lead into intermission.

The Mean Green never led in the second half as their field goal percentage dipped to just .316. BYU's efficiency from the floor in the second stanza improved to 50 percent as it pulled away.

BYU outscored North Texas in the paint, 58-30. The Cougars were effective from the foul line on the night, going 17-of-24, while the Mean Green were a lackluster 5-of-14 from the stripe.
