Recap: North Texas vs. Southern Miss

Denton, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Michael Craig scored 21 points as the Southern Miss Golden Eagles defeated the North Texas Mean Green, 74-64, in a Conference USA tilt at the Super Pit.

Daveon Boardingham scored 11 points for the Golden Eagles (14-2, 1-0 C-USA). Deonte Houston added 10 points while Jeremiah Eason brought down nine boards. The Golden Eagles have won five straight games.

Jordan Williams paced the Mean Green (9-6, 0-1) with 17 points. Maurice Aniefiok scored 12 points while Chris Jones collected six rebounds. The loss snapped a four-game winning streak for North Texas.

Southern Miss drained 63.6 percent of its shots from the floor in the first half, including 3-of-6 from 3-point range. The Golden Eagles held a 39-25 lead at the half. The Mean Green only made 34.8 percent of their field goal attempts, including 2-of-6 from beyond the arc in the frame.

In the second period the Golden Eagles cooled down, only making 30.4 percent of their field goal tries. North Texas improved by shooting 47.1 percent from the floor but it was not enough to make up the difference.

Despite winning Southern Miss turned the ball over 22 times. The Golden Eagles never trailed in the game.
