Tulsa (17-12) at North Texas (15-14)

GAME NOTES: The Tulsa Golden Hurricane look to escape with a possible Conference USA regular-season title when they take the court against the North Texas Mean Green at UNT Coliseum.

The Hurricane enter the game tied for the top spot in the C-USA standings with Southern Miss, Middle Tennessee and Louisiana Tech at 12-3. All four teams play on the road in their regular-season finale on Thursday with a lot riding on a win. Southern Miss visits Tulane, Middle Tennessee visits UAB and Louisiana Tech faces Rice.

Tulsa has won seven straight to get into the race for the top spot in the conference.

On Sunday, the Hurricane escaped a scare at home against Texas-San Antonio, coming away with a 72-70 overtime win. D'Andre Wright made a layup with one second remaining on the clock to lift Tulsa over the Roadrunners. Wright tallied 12 points and seven rebounds, as Tulsa improved to 17-12 overall. James Woodard led the Hurricane with 19 points, adding seven rebounds to his stat line.

Woodard leads Tulsa with 14.8 ppg and 5.9 rpg. Rashad Smith adds 12. 0 ppg for the Hurricane, who average 73 ppg and yield just 68.2 ppg whole holding opponents to just 40.9 percent shooting.

North Texas had a four-game win streak come to a halt last time out, losing 74-54 to UTEP. Alzee Williams led all scorers in the contest with 15 points for North Texas, which fell to 6-9 in the conference. Jordan Williams contributed a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds, and Maurice Aniefiok tallied 10 points and seven rebounds off the bench.

Jordan Williams leads the Mean Green in scoring with just 12.5 ppg and also leads in rebounding with 6.2 rpg. Alzee Williams (11.2) is the only other player averaging in double figures for North Texas, which nets 70.2 ppg.

These two schools met back on Feb. 1 and the Hurricane came away with an easy 94-63 decision. Woodard and Wright netted 18 points each and Rashad Smith came off the bench to add 17 points and six boards for Tulsa, which has dominated this series to the tune of 38-13. For the Mean Green, Jordan Williams had 21 points and seven rebounds.

This game should result in the same fate for North Texas. Tulsa is a much more talented team with superior scoring depth. The Hurricane have more at stake and should come to play.
