Recap: Abilene Christian vs. West Alabama

Towson, MD (SportsNetwork.com) - Sandy Underwood paced five teammates in double figures with 22 points as the West Alabama Tigers topped the Abilene Christian Wildcats, 77-67, in the Battle 4 Atlantis Mainland Tournament at SECU Arena.

Jarell Byrd tallied a double-double with 15 points and 10 assists for West Alabama (2-2), while Raymond Desmond scored 14 points off the bench. Mychael Bester finished with 11 points and nine boards, while Aaron Cobb rounded out the balanced effort with 13 points.

For Abilene Christian (2-7), Harrison Hawkins scored 21 points on 10-of-13 from the free-throw line. Parker Wentz shot 5-of-10, all from beyond the arc, for 15 points.

West Alabama shot only 37.5 percent from the field in the first half, but it made all 11 of its attempts from the stripe on its way to a 31-27 halftime lead.

The Tigers improved upon their field goal shooting in the second half (.545) and they never surrendered their advantage.

West Alabama outscored Abilene Christian at the foul line, 30-16.
