Recap: Texas-Arlington vs. Samford

Arlington, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Reger Dowell paced all scorers with 24 points to lead the Texas-Arlington Mavericks to an 88-75 victory over the Samford Bulldogs at College Park Center.

Dowell sank 8-of-17 from the field and 7-of-9 from the free-throw line for UTA (1-1), while Brandon Edwards tallied a double-double with 18 points and a career-high 17 rebounds. Jamel Outler and Lonnie McClanahan chipped in 14 points apiece, with McClanahan also handing out five assists. Vincent Dillard had 12 points on a perfect night from the field (5-of-5).

For Samford (1-1), Raijon Kelly netted 18 points, while Tyler Hood and Connor Miller both poured in 12 points. Tim Williams narrowly missed a double-double with nine points and 12 boards.

After outshooting Samford from the field in the first half, 45.2 percent to 31 percent, UTA carried a 41-34 lead into intermission. Despite their poor field goal percentage, the Bulldogs were able to keep the game close by forcing 11 first-half turnovers.

Samford got within three points of the lead early in the second half, but the Mavericks used a 19-7 run to pull away.

The Bulldogs lost despite an impressive night from beyond the arc (10-of-23). UTA won the rebounding battle, 42-35.
