Recap: Texas-El Paso vs. Rice

El Paso, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Julian Washburn registered 17 points, eight rebounds and five assists as the Texas-El Paso Miners handedly defeated the Rice Owls, 68-57, in a Conference USA contest at Don Haskins Center.

C.J. Cooper added 17 points for the Miners (16-6, 6-1 C-USA), who have won six straight games. Vince Hunter had 14 points and nine boards while Cedrick Lang also cleared nine rebounds.

Marcus Jackson logged 14 points for the Owls (6-15, 1-7), losers in 10 of their last 11 games. Max Guercy chipped in 11 points and five assists while Sean Obi brought down 13 rebounds.

Rice made 41.4 percent of its field goal attempts in the first half as they led 30-21 at the break. UTEP shot just 30.8 from the field.

In the second period the Miners connected on 54.5 percent of their field goal tries as the Owls shot a miserable 29.6 percent from the field. UTEP took the lead for good with 5:09 left on a Hunter layup. From that point the Miners went on a 15-6 run to close out the game.

The Miners had a significant edge at the free-throw line, 22-6.
