Recap: UAB vs. Texas-El Paso

Birmingham, AL (SportsNetwork.com) - Vince Hunter notched 18 points to help the Texas-El Paso Miners hold off the UAB Blazers 63-61 in a Conference USA matchup at Bartow Arena.

Hunter shot 7-of-13 from the field for the Miners (13-6, 3-1 C-USA), who have won eight of their last nine. C.J. Cooper and John Bohannon contributed 17 and 11 points, respectively.

Rod Rucker scored 17 points to lead the Blazers (12-5, 1-2), who have lost two of their last three. Chad Frazier and CJ Washington added 13 and 11 points, respectively.

The teams were pretty closely matched in the first half with the Miners shooting 42.9 percent from the field and the Blazers shooting 40.9 percent. At halftime the score was 30-24 in favor of UTEP.

The Miners just slightly outpaced their opponents again in the second half, when they shot 46.2 percent from the floor to the Blazers' 43.3 percent. UAB led by a point with 1:58 left, until a Bohannon layup reclaimed the lead for UTEP for good.

The Blazers shot a woeful 2-of-14 from 3-point range during the tight contest, which saw nine lead changes and no lead larger than eight points.
