Recap: Tulane vs. Alabama State
New Orleans, LA (SportsNetwork.com) - Jonathan Stark tallied 21 points and the Tulane Green Wave breezed past the Alabama State Hornets, 84-66, at Devlin Fieldhouse in the opening game of the Tulane Classic.
Stark shot 5-of-10 from the field and 10-of-10 from the free-throw line for the Green Wave (6-6). Louis Dabney (19 points), Kevin Thomas (12) and Jay Hook (11) all scored in double figures while Tre Drye brought down 14 rebounds.
Jamel Waters led the Hornets (4-4) with 17 points, shooting 4-of-8 from the floor and 9-of-13 from the line while also helping out with eight assists. DeMarcus Robinson and Bobby Brown scored 14 and 12 points, respectively.
The Green Wave had everything going their way in the first half, where they shot 58.3 percent from the floor and 12-of-13 at the line. The Hornets shot only 38.5 percent from the field, including a woeful 1-of-12 from 3-point range, and they went into halftime trailing, 43-27.
In the second half, the Hornets continued to rely on the perimeter game, and they shot 6-of-13 from long range, part of an improved 44.4 percent from the field. Their defense, however, could not slow the Green Wave, who shot 51.7 percent from the floor and a perfect 10-of-10 from the stripe. Tulane led by as many as 20 points and never trailed in the second stanza.
Tulane outscored its opponent in the paint by a staggering 42-16 margin. The Green Wave also outrebounded the Hornets, 36-24, on the way to a dominating victory.Game Notes
