Recap: South Dakota St vs. Belmont

Brookings, SD (SportsNetwork.com) - Brayden Carlson poured in a game-high 20 points as the South Dakota State Jackrabbits pulled away for an 85-72 victory over the Belmont Bruins in a non-conference bout at Frost Arena.

Jake Bittle tallied 19 points, five steals and three assists for SDSU (5-7), which also received 16 points, nine boards and four assists from Cody Larson. Jordan Dykstra contributed 11 points and seven rebounds while Chad White scored 10 points for the Jackrabbits.

Craig Bradshaw paced Belmont (8-3) with 17 points, but he also committed six of the team's 16 turnovers. J.J. Mann finished with 15 points and three steals. Blake Jenkins chipped in 14 points to go along with a team-best seven rebounds and Caleb Chowbay scored 10 points.

SDSU took a 36-33 lead into the intermission after it connected on 53.8 percent of its attempts from the field in the opening 20 minutes of the contest. The Bruins knocked down 50 percent of their shots from the floor including 5-of-9 from beyond the arc in the first half to stay within striking distance.

The Jackrabbits opened up the second period on a 9-2 run to create some separation on the scoreboard. Belmont trailed by 19 points before it went on a 28-6 run to cut the deficit down to double-digits. However, SDSU responded and made 19-of-26 attempts at the free-throw line in the second half to earn the 13-point decision.

Belmont came up short despite hitting on 10-of-21 shots from behind the 3- point line. The Jackrabbits converted the Bruins' 16 turnovers into 19 points in the contest.
