Recap: Ill-Chicago vs. Eastern Ill
Chicago, IL (SportsNetwork.com) - Behind a career-high 23 points from Reggie Smith, the Eastern Illinois Panthers downed the Illinois-Chicago Flames, 86-66, in non-conference action at UIC Pavilion.
Smith shot 7-of-13 from the field, including 3-of-5 from 3-point range for EIU (2-1) while also handing out six assists. Josh Piper netted 10 points for the visitors, while Luke Piotrowski tallied nine points, seven rebounds and three blocks off the bench.
For UIC (1-2), Marc Brown scored 20 points, while Jordan Harks and Kelsey Barlow added 13 and 12, respectively. Barlow also contributed seven assists and five boards.
The Panthers overcame seven turnovers in the first half to go into halftime up, 40-27. They shot 16-of-29 from the field in the opening 20 minutes, including 6-of-8 from beyond the arc.
EIU never surrendered its lead after intermission, draining 19-of-24 free throws in the second half to help fend off the Flames.
UIC shot just 40.4 percent from the floor on the afternoon, compared to 57.1 percent for EIU.Game Notes
