Recap: Eastern Ill vs. IUPU-Ft Wayne

Charleston, IL (SportsNetwork.com) - Steve Forbes scored 19 points and brought down eight boards as the IUPU-Fort Wayne Mastodons claimed a victory over the Eastern Illinois Panthers, 71-65, in a non-conference matchup at Lantz Arena.

Michael Kibiloski scored 12 points for the Mastodons (6-2) while Joe Edwards chipped in 11. Pierre Bland stuffed the stat sheet with eight points, eight rebounds and seven assists.

The Panthers (3-3) were led by Sherman Blanford's 17 points and three blocks. Dennis Green drained 6-of-10 from the field en route to 16 points in just 18 minutes of action. Alex Austin netted 15 points and Reggie Smith poured in 10.

Both teams shot an even 50 percent from the floor in the opening stanza, but it was the Mastodons 4-of-10 shooting from 3-point range that helped give them the 31-29 halftime lead. Austin converted a three-point play with 1:03 before the half to cut the deficit from five down to two.

The Mastodons made 18-of-27 free-throw attempts in the second half, which allowed the visitors to hold on to the advantage for most of the way down the stretch. A Mo Evans 3-point shot with 10:50 remaining gave the Mastodons the lead for good.

IPFW dominated on the glass, claiming a 33-16 rebounding edge.
