Recap: IUPU-Ft Wayne vs. Eastern Ill

Ft. Wayne, IN (SportsNetwork.com) - Steve Forbes had a game-high 20 points and Luis Jacobo scored 18 off the bench, as the IUPU-Fort Wayne Mastodons rolled to an 86-65 win over the Eastern Illinois Panthers in non-league play at the Gates Sports Center.

Isaiah McCray added 15 points and Mo Evans scored 12 to help the Mastodons (10-4) notch their fourth straight victory.

The Panthers (3-8) suffered their sixth consecutive loss, despite four starters in double figures, led by Alex Austin's 16 points. Coincidentally, the losing streak began with a 71-65 loss to these same Mastodons when they faced each other on Nov. 27.

IPFW raced out to a 54-39 halftime lead behind a 62.5-percent shooting effort from the floor, including 10-of-15 3-pointers, in the first half.

The Mastodons inevitably cooled down in the second stanza, but the Panthers were unable to close the gap as they shot just 34.5 percent from the floor over the final 20 minutes.

IPFW shot a healthy 56.5 percent from 3-point range for the game, while the Panthers shot just 28.6 percent.
