Recap: Tenn Tech vs. Eastern Ill

Cookeville, TN (SportsNetwork.com) - Jeremia Samarrippas led all scorers with 18 points, as the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles took down the Eastern Illinois Panthers, 81-69, in an Ohio Valley Conference bout at Eblen Center.

Samarrippas shot 4-of-7 from 3-point range for TTU (9-9, 2-1 OVC), while Jordan Johnson (12 points), Dwan Caldwell (11) and Josiah Moore (10) were also solid.

For EIU (4-11, 1-3), which has lost three straight, Dylan Chatman scored 14 points and Sherman Blanford netted 11.

EIU shot a lofty 52 percent from the field in the first half, slightly better than TTU's 50 percent, but the Golden Eagles still led at intermission, 43-36, after shooting 6-of-9 from 3-point range and 13-of-16 from the free- throw line.

The Panthers tied the game at 59 with 7:30 left following a Reggie Smith three-point play, but the Golden Eagles responded on their next possession with a Samarrippas 3-pointer and never relinquished the advantage down the stretch.

EIU committed 14 turnovers, which turned into 25 points for TTU.
