Recap: Jacksonville St vs. Eastern Ill

Jacksonville, AL (SportsNetwork.com) - Chris Olivier scored 15 points as the Eastern Illinois Panthers pulled out a 56-48 victory over the Jacksonville State Gamecocks in an Ohio Valley Conference clash at Pete Mathews Coliseum.

Reggie Smith added nine points for Eastern Illinois (5-11,2-3 OVC). The Panthers ended a three-game losing streak with the win.

Teraes Clemmons scored 12 points off the bench to pace Jacksonville State (8-12, 2-3). The Gamecocks have lost three of their last four.

In the first half the Panthers connected on 56.3 percent of their shots from the floor, to make up for nine turnovers. They also limited the Gamecocks to only six field goals and led 29-18 at intermission.

Eastern Illinois cooled to 45 percent shooting in the final 20 minutes, but it was enough to hold off Jacksonville State, which hit on 34.5 percent in the period.

The Panthers owned a 30-18 scoring edge in the paint. Jacksonville State got 24 of its 29 bench points in the second half.
