Recap: Eastern Ill vs. SIU Edwardsville

Charleston, IL (SportsNetwork.com) - Sherman Blanford registered a double- double of 24 points and 13 rebounds to lift the Eastern Illinois Panthers to a 76-70 win over the SIU Edwardsville Cougars in an Ohio Valley Conference tilt at Lantz Arena.

Blanford also made an impact on the defensive end of the court for the Panthers (8-14, 5-5 OVC) with four steals and a pair of blocks. Reggie Smith hit on 6-of-11 field goal attempts for 17 points while Chris Oliver provided a spark off the bench with 12 points and eight boards.

SIUE (8-15, 4-5) was led by Kris Davis, who scored 15 of his 17 points from beyond the arc. Keaton Jackson contributed 16 points in 20 minutes and Ray Lester posted 11 points.

The Cougars made 50 percent of their shots from the floor and converted 6-of-7 tries at the charity stripe in the opening 20 minutes of the contest. EIU went into the intermission trailing, 35-30, after it was limited to 40 percent efficiency from the field in the first period.

The Panthers heated up to knock down 56 percent of their field goal attempts and outrebounded the visitors, 20-13, in the second half. EIU also sank 16- of-18 shots at the free-throw line after the break.
