Recap: SIU Edwardsville vs. Eastern Ill

Edwardsville, IL (SportsNetwork.com) - Reggie Smith scored 19 points and Sherman Blanford registered a double-double to lead the Eastern Illinois Panthers to a 78-74 victory over the SIU Edwardsville Cougars in an Ohio Valley Conference finale at the Vadalabene Center.

Blanford had 13 points and 14 rebounds for Eastern Illinois (11-18, 7-9 OVC), which won back-to-back games to finish the regular season.

Donivine Stewart tallied 15 points to pace SIUE (11-19, 7-9), which has lost four of its last five games. Tim Johnson and Keaton Jackson each chipped in 12 points, Kris Davis netted 11 and Ray Lester finished with 10 points and 11 rebounds.

Eastern Illinois may have only shot 41.4 percent from the floor in the first half, but it limited SIUE to 38.5 percent and led, 31-26, at intermission.

The Cougars heated up to 59.4 percent shooting in the second frame, but it wasn't enough to overcome the Panthers, who outscored their hosts, 26-6, from the free-throw line in the final 20 minutes.

SIUE lost despite a 21-9 scoring edge from beyond the arc. Eastern Illinois went 31-of-41 from the charity stripe.
