Recap: Akron vs. Ohio

Akron, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - Jon Smith registered a double-double with 16 points, on 8-of-9 shooting, and 12 rebounds as the Ohio University Bobcats defeated the Akron Zips, 66-50, in a Mid-American Conference tilt at James A. Rhodes Arena.

Travis Wilkins had 14 points and Nick Kellogg added 11 for the Bobcats (19-8, 9-5 MAC), who have won two of their last three games. Javarez Willis handed out six assists.

Demetrius Treadwell and Quincy Diggs finished with 13 points and nine rebounds each, despite combining to shoot 7-of-30 from the floor. Deji Ibitayo also had 13 points for the Zips (17-10, 9-5), who have lost two straight.

Ohio made 57.1 percent of its shots from the floor in the first half as it led 36-20 at the break. Akron shot just 26.1 percent on field goal attempts, making a total of just six baskets.

Not much changed in the second frame as the Bobcats connected on 52 percent of their shots from the field and Akron struggled by making just 27.3 percent. Ohio felt no pressure as its lead was at least 11 points or more in the period.

Despite the loss, the Zips attempted 19 more free throws than the Bobcats.
