Recap: VA Commonwealth vs. Fordham

Richmond, VA (SportsNetwork.com) - Melvin Johnson netted a team-high 13 points to help the Virginia Commonwealth Rams to a 76-60 win over the Fordham Rams in an Atlantic 10 Conference matchup at the Siegel Center.

VCU (17-4, 5-1 A-10) also received 11 points courtesy of JaQuan Lewis. Juvonte Reddic recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 boards while Rob Brandenberg, Jordan Burgess and Treveon Graham scored nine points apiece.

Mandell Thomas paced Fordham (8-12, 1-6) with 25 points on 9-of-16 shooting from the floor.

VCU dominated the opening period with the help of a 13-of-16 performance at the free-throw line. Fordham trailed, 40-23, at the intermission after it was limited to 33.3 percent efficiency from the field in the first half.

The visitors played much better after the break as they knocked down 40.6 percent of their field goal attempts including 5-of-12 from behind the 3-point line. VCU shot just 31.6 percent from the floor but converted 10-of-11 tries at the charity stripe in the second half to stay in front.

VCU enjoyed a 46-40 edge in the rebounding battle and scored 21 points off of Fordham's 18 turnovers.
