Recap: Southern Miss vs. Morehead State

Hattiesburg, MS ( - Neil Watson scored 19 points and handed out five assists as the Southern Miss Golden Eagles captured a 74-60 win over the Morehead State Eagles in a non-conference matchup at Reed Green Coliseum.

Before fouling out Daveon Boardingham accounted for 12 points off the bench for the Golden Eagles (7-1), followed by Michael Craig and Chip Armelin with 11 and 10 points, respectively. Craig also pulled down a team-best nine rebounds and made three steals along the way.

Morehead State (7-4) got a game-high 20 points from Angelo Warner, but he was also responsible for seven of his team's 24 turnovers. Luka Pajkovic pitched in with 19 points off the bench, while Chad Posthumus registered a double- double with 16 points and a game-high 15 rebounds.

USM scored the first points of the contest and carried it over to a 39-25 advantage at the break after shooting 53.6 percent from the floor.

In the second half the shooting accuracy of the Golden Eagles dipped down to only 38.5 percent, which included 0-of-5 behind the 3-point line, but the team compensated with 15-of-21 shooting at the free-throw line in the period.

In addition to scoring 27 points off turnovers, Southern Miss also watched Morehead State connect on a mere 14-of-29 shots at the charity stripe.
