Recap: Morehead State vs. South Dakota

Morehead, KY (SportsNetwork.com) - Led by a career-high 40 points and 12 rebounds from Drew Kelly, the Morehead State Eagles took down the South Dakota Coyotes, 120-83, in a non-league matchup at Ellis Johnson Arena.

For the Eagles (8-5), Brent Arrington added 19 points, Angelo Warner scored 16, Chad Posthumus posted a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds, Luka Pajkovic scored 11 points, Billy Reader chipped in with 10 points and Kareem Storey tied a school record with 16 assists.

Casey Kasperbauer led the Coyotes (3-8) with 15 points, while Trevor Gruis finished with 14 points and Brandon Bos, Adam Thoseby and Tavian Pomlee each chipped in with 11 points.

Morehead State connected on 65.7 percent of its field goal tries in the first half, including 10-of-13 from beyond the arc. The Eagles opened the game on a 13-1 run and went into halftime with a 57-34 lead. South Dakota struggled from the field, shooting just 32.1 percent from the field in the opening period.

After the break, the Coyotes picked up the pace, making 56.7 percent of their field goal tries, including 6-of-14 from 3-point range. The Eagles shot just 46.7 percent from the floor after the break but still had success from deep, hitting on 7-of-19 from 3-point distance.

The Eagles dominated in the paint, outscoring the Coyotes, 44-26. Morehead State also did an excellent job making South Dakota pay for its mistakes, as the Eagles scored 35 points off of 19 Coyote turnovers.
