Recap: SIU Edwardsville vs. Morehead State

Edwardsville, IL (SportsNetwork.com) - Angelo Warner led the way with 17 points, as the Morehead State Eagles outlasted the SIU Edwardsville Cougars, 70-63, in the Ohio Valley Conference opener for both teams at the Vadalabene Center.

Warner shot 7-of-8 from the free-throw line and added six rebounds for Morehead State (10-6, 1-0 OVC), which has won three of four. Drew Kelly pitched in 12 points, while Chad Posthumus collected 10 rebounds.

For SIUE (3-11, 0-1), Donivine Stewart netted 17 points on 5-of-9 from the field, while Keaton Jackson registered 10 points off the bench.

Although Morehead State shot a poor 35.7 percent from the field in the first half, SIUE was even worse at 30.4 percent, as the Eagles carried a 34-27 lead into intermission.

The Eagles led by as many as 12 in the second half, and while the Cougars climbed back to make it just a two-point game with 1:55 left following a Kris Davis dunk, that was as close as they would get.

SIUE had more turnovers (19) than field goals (16) on the night and only managed to keep the game close by piecing together a 25-of-37 showing at the free-throw line.
