Recap: SE Missouri St vs. Tenn-Martin

Cape Girardeau, MO (SportsNetwork.com) - Myles Taylor and Marshun Newell both poured in 18 points, as the Tennessee-Martin Skyhawks bested the Southeast Missouri State Redhawks, 79-70, in Ohio Valley Conference play at the Show Me Center.

Taylor added eight rebounds, three steals and two blocks to his performance for UTM (8-19, 3-9 OVC), which snapped a four-game losing streak. Dee Oldham scored 13 points off the bench for the visitors, while Mike Liabo added 12 points.

For SEMO (13-13, 4-8), Tyler Stone tallied 21 points, 16 rebounds and four blocks and Josh Langford netted 14 points.

Although SEMO outshot UTM from the field in the first half, 42.4 percent to 37.5 percent, the Skyhawks took a 33-30 lead into the break after draining five 3-pointers compared to zero for the Redhawks.

The teams played one another tight for most of the second half. With SEMO leading by one with just over five minutes remaining, UTM pulled away with a 7-0 run, and it shot 7-of-8 from the free-throw line in the final 52 seconds to seal its fate.

SEMO committed a game-high 14 turnovers on the night, which UTM converted into 18 points.
