Recap: Bowling Green vs. Eastern Mich

Bowling Green, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - Mike Talley scored a team-high 14 points to lead the Eastern Michigan Eagles to a 56-51 victory over the Bowling Green Falcons in the Mid-American Conference opener for both schools at the Stroh Center.

Karrington Ward added 13 points and four steals for EMU (9-5, 1-0 MAC) as it picked up its second consecutive decision. The Eagles also received nine points and eight rebounds from Glenn Bryant.

Richaun Holmes paced the Falcons (6-8, 0-1) with 17 points. Jehvon Clarke chipped in 11 points while Anthony Henderson and Spencer Parker contributed 10 points and six rebounds apiece. The loss was the third in a row for the Falcons.

Despite shooting just 32 percent from the field in the opening 20 minutes of play, EMU took a 24-23 lead into the intermission. Holmes scored 12 points in the first half while the rest of the Falcons shot a collective 3-of-19 from the floor.

BGSU connected on only 2-of-10 tries from 3-point range and went 8-of-18 at the charity stripe in the second period. The Eagles led for the final 11:43 of regulation. EMU overcame an 0-of-4 clip from behind the 3-point line by sinking 14-of-20 attempts at the free-throw line after the break.

EMU held a narrow, 28-24, advantage in points in the paint in the contest. The Eagles' reserves outscored BGSU's bench, 10-1.
