Recap: George Washington vs. VA Commonwealth

Washington, D.C. (SportsNetwork.com) - Patricio Garino scored 25 points and Isaiah Armwood posted a double-double for George Washington, as the Colonials took down the Virginia Commonwealth Rams 76-66 in an Atlantic 10 duel at the Charles E. Smith Center.

Armwood finished with 11 points, 14 rebounds and four blocks for George Washington (14-3, 2-1 A-10). Kevin Larsen added 22 points and seven boards.

Rob Brandenberg netted 17 points for VCU (13-4, 1-1), which had won five straight entering play. Treveon Graham chipped in 12 points and Melvin Johnson tacked on 11, but on just 4-of-14 from the floor.

George Washington entered halftime, leading 36-29. The Colonials shot 56.5 percent from the floor in the half and held VCU to 36.7 percent.

After the break the Colonials shot at a 56 percent clip, which was more than enough to hold off the Rams, who connected on just 36.8 percent themselves.

VCU did own a 24-15 scoring advantage off of turnovers in the loss. George Washington had a 46-30 edge on scoring in the paint.
