Recap: La Salle vs. VA Commonwealth

Philadelphia, PA (SportsNetwork.com) - Treveon Graham registered a double- double with 34 points and 12 rebounds to lead the way as the Virginia Commonwealth Rams outlasted the La Salle Explorers for a 97-89 victory in an Atlantic 10 Conference double-overtime thriller at Tom Gola Arena.

Juvonte Reddic also recorded a double-double for VCU (16-4, 4-1 A-10) with 27 points and 15 boards. Briante Weber tallied 12 points, five assists and all five of the team's steals to help the Rams pick up their third consecutive win.

Tyrone Garland led the Explorers (11-8, 3-2) with 30 points on 8-of-22 shooting from the floor. Tyreek Duren chipped in 15 points and Jerrell Wright netted 10 points. Steve Zack posted a double-double for the hosts with 11 points and 11 rebounds, which he accompanied with four blocked shots.

VCU connected on 37.1 percent of its field goal attempts including 5-of-13 from 3-point range in the first period en route to a 33-29 halftime lead. The Explorers were limited to just 29.6 percent efficiency from the floor in the opening 20 minutes, but kept it close by converting 11-of-13 attempts at the charity stripe.

La Salle heated up to knock down 70.4 percent of its shots from the field in the second half. The Rams made 60.9 percent of their field goal tries in the second stanza. The Explorers led, 73-67 with 1:14 left in regulation before Graham tallied six consecutive points to tie the score and send the game into overtime.

The Explorers were once again in position to pick up the decision as they led, 80-79, with 22 seconds left in the first extra session. However, Graham drew a foul with five seconds remaining and sank 1-of-2 free-throw attempts to even the score and force another overtime period.

Thanks to back-to-back makes from beyond the arc by Rob Brandenburg, the Rams jumped out to an 88-82 lead in the second extra session and did not allow La Salle to narrow the deficit the rest of the way.

Brandenburg finished with nine points. The Explorers came up short despite outscoring the visitors, 50-38, in the paint.
