Recap: Massachusetts vs. La Salle

Amherst, MA (SportsNetwork.com) - Chaz Williams finished with 17 points and eight assists, as the Massachusetts Minutemen rolled past the La Salle Explorers, 79-67, in an Atlantic 10 Conference matchup at the Mullins Center.

Cady Lalanne and Trey Davis scored 13 points apiece for the Minutemen (18-4, 5-3 A-10) as they snapped a two-game losing skid. Derrick Gordon chipped in 12 points on 6-of-7 shooting, Sampson Carter had 11 points and Raphiael Putney cleared 11 rebounds.

Jerrell Wright had 16 points and seven rebounds for the Explorers (12-10, 4-4), who have lost four of their last five contests. Tyreek Duren netted 13 points and swiped three steals and Khalid Lewis tallied 10 points and six assists.

UMass connected on 55.2 percent of its shots from the floor, including 5-of-7 from 3-point range in the first half, as it led 43-27 at the break. La Salle made just 30 percent of its field goal tries in the opening 20 minutes.

The Minutemen continued to shoot well in the second period, as they made 51.6 percent from the field. Their lead was never less than 12 in the frame.

UMass did a better job of distributing the ball, as it had 21 assists while the Explorers only managed 13.
