Recap: Tenn-Martin vs. Tennessee St

Martin, TN (SportsNetwork.com) - Myles Taylor scored 25 points, shooting 10- of-12 from the floor, as the Tennessee-Martin Skyhawks captured a convincing 100-81 win over the Tennessee State Tigers in an Ohio Valley Conference clash at the Elam Center.

The Skyhawks (6-14, 1-4 OVC) had a total of six players scoring in double figures, including all five starters as, the squad snapped a six-game slide. Terence Smith tallied 20 points, seven rebounds and six assists, Dee Oldham added 15 points and four steals, while Mike Liabo and Justin Childs accounted for 13 and 10 points, respectively. Marshun Newell logged a double-double consisting of 11 points and a game-high 10 assists as well.

Patrick Miller scored a game-high 29 points for the Tigers (2-17, 1-4), knocking down all but one of his 14 free-throw attempts, followed by Jay Harris with 15 points. M.J. Rhett and Kennedy Eubanks contributed 11 points apiece, the former grabbing eight rebounds as the team lost for the seventh time in eight tries.

Both teams shot the ball well from the field in the first half, but even with 52.0 percent accuracy overall, the Tigers hurt themselves with just 2-of-10 shooting behind the 3-point line, en route to a 48-37 deficit at the break. The Skyhawks made good on 58.8 percent from the floor and 7-of-14 on the perimeter through the first 20 minutes.

In the second half UT-Martin jumped to an impressive 63.3 percent accuracy from the floor in order to run away with the 19-point home win.

While hitting 60.9 percent from the field and 11-of-23 beyond the arc, the Skyhawks also held the visitors to just 2-of-17 on the outside on the night.

The last time the Skyhawks reached triple digits in the scoring column was exactly three years ago to the day, falling to Tennessee Tech in triple- overtime, 109-105.
