Recap: South Alabama vs. Southern Miss

Mobile, AL (SportsNetwork.com) - Neil Watson scored 17 points to lead the Southern Miss Golden Eagles over the South Alabama Jaguars, 66-59, as part of the CBE Hall of Fame Classic at the Mitchell Center.

Watson knocked down a trio of 3-pointers for the Golden Eagles (4-0) who remain undefeated. Aaron Brown added 17 points and five rebounds while hitting 8-of-11 free-throw attempts. Jerrold Brooks managed 13 points, while Michael Craig contributed 10 points and eight rebounds.

The Jaguars (2-2) were led by Augustine Rubit who scored 17 points and pulled down five rebounds. Antoine Allen contributed 14 points while making four 3- pointers, but he also had five turnovers.

South Alabama shot an impressive 57.1 percent from the floor in the first half and took a 37-31 lead into intermission.

Although the Golden Eagles shot just 31.8 percent from the field in the second half, their defensive effort held the Jaguars to just 28.6 percent shooting while USM took advantage of its opportunities at the free-throw line, hitting 17-of-23 attempts. Southern Miss outscored South Alabama 35-22 in the second half and escaped with the seven-point victory.

USA suffered 15 turnovers and shot only 16-of-25 at the charity stripe on the night.
