Recap: North Dakota St vs. Southern Miss

Fargo, ND (SportsNetwork.com) - Aaron Brown scored 18 points to lead the Southern Miss Golden Eagles to a 70-69 victory over the North Dakota State Bison in a non-conference thriller at the Bison Sports Arena.

Jeremiah Eason had 15 points on a perfect 6-of-6 performance from the field for the Golden Eagles (3-0) while Jerrold Brooks chipped in 11 points to go along with five assists. Michael Craig posted eight points and 10 rebounds to help Southern Miss stay perfect on the season.

TrayVonn Wright finished with game-highs of 21 points and 12 boards for the Bison (1-2). Mike Felt scored 15 and Taylor Braun added a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.

Southern Miss shot a solid 52 percent from the floor and went 3-of-6 from 3- point range in the opening 20 minutes of the contest en route to a commanding, 39-28, lead into the intermission. The visitors applied intense defensive pressure to force 12 first half turnovers which they converted into 17 points.

After the break, North Dakota State came out strong and hit on 6-of-9 attempts from beyond the arc while shooting 57.1 percent from the field overall. Southern Miss was able to outscore the Bison, 22-10, in the paint in the second stanza. Although the hosts managed to tie the score on five occasions after halftime, the Golden Eagles never allowed them to take the lead. Wright made two free-throws with eight seconds left in the game to bring the Bison within one but they were not able to get off another shot attempt before the game ended.

Southern Miss dominated on the inside to outscore North Dakota State, 42-20, in the paint. The Golden Eagles's reserves outscored the Bisons' bench, 25-17.
