Recap: Southern Utah vs. Eastern Wash

Cedar City, UT (SportsNetwork.com) - Venky Jois scored 29 points and grabbed 13 rebounds for the double-double, helping his Eastern Washington Eagles take down the Southern Utah Thunderbirds, 85-74, in a Big Sky Conference clash at the Centrum Arena.

Tyler Harvey netted 26 points, connecting on 13-of-15 from the free-throw line, with five assists for Eastern Washington (13-13, 8-7 Big Sky). Drew Brandon chipped in with 16 points and five rebounds in the win for the Eagles, who have won three consecutive contests.

Casey Oliverson scored 16 points with seven rebounds for Southern Utah (1-24, 0-16). A.J. Hess notched 15 points and eight rebounds, and John Marshall added 15 points of his own with five assists. The Thunderbirds have lost 24 straight games, and have not beat a Division I opponent this season.

Eastern Washington shot 48 percent from the floor in the first half, but went just 1-of-6 from 3-point range. The Eagles took a slim 38-34 lead into the intermission after Southern Utah shot 54.5 percent in the frame.

The Thunderbirds came back down to Earth in the second period, netting 37.9 percent of their field goal tries, including 4-of-11 from deep. The Eagles hit 52.2 percent of their attempts in the half, and went 20-of-29 from the free- throw line.

Eastern Washington had the advantage in points in the paint, 36-20, and won the battle from the free-throw line, 33-20. Southern Utah had the edge in bench points, 22-5.
