Recap: Southern Utah vs. Idaho State

Cedar City, UT (SportsNetwork.com) - Chris Hansen scored a game-high 22 points and pulled down seven rebounds as the Idaho State Bengals came back to defeat the Southern Utah Thunderbirds, 75-65, in a Big Sky Conference clash at Centrum Arena.

Hansen connected on 5-of-9 shots behind the 3-point line for the Bengals (9-13, 6-7 Big Sky) as they won for the second time in the last three outings. Andre Hatchett added 16 points and Tomas Sanchez 14 in the triumph.

The Thunderbirds (1-22, 0-14) continued their downward spiral as they saw their losing streak stretched to 22 games. Winless in conference play, SUU was paced by AJ Hess with 14 points and both Jaren Jeffery and Race Parsons with 12 points apiece.

Idaho State was limited to just 25.9 percent shooting from the field in the first half, with Sanchez missing all eight of his field goal tries, allowing the Thunderbirds to take a slim 25-24 advantage at the break.

In the second half the Bengals turned it around, connecting on not just 61.9 percent from the field, but also 21-of-29 at the free-throw line, all while holding the hosts to just 5-of-17 behind the 3-point line.

ISU outscored the T'birds at the charity stripe, 27-14, and turned the ball over a mere six times on the evening.

For Southern Utah, the team has now dropped 27 straight games against Division I competition and has not defeated a conference foe since taking down this same Idaho State squad, 91-79, in overtime back on Feb. 7, 2013.
