Recap: VA Commonwealth vs. St Bonaventure

Richmond, VA ( - Rob Brandenberg and Treveon Graham each netted 18 points to lead the Virginia Commonwealth Rams over the St. Bonaventure Bonnies, 86-67, in an Atlantic 10 Conference showdown at Siegel Center.

JeQuan Lewis scored 14 points and recorded five steals for VCU (24-7, 12-4 A-10), which sits a half-game back of Saint Louis for the conference lead. The Billikens play UMass to end their regular season on Sunday. Juvonte Reddic tallied a double-double with 13 points and 14 rebounds, and Melvin Johnson chipped in with 10 points in the win.

Matthew Wright led all scorers in the contest with 21 points for St. Bonaventure (16-14, 6-10), while three Bonnies players tallied nine points in the game. St. Bonaventure turned the ball over 24 times in the loss.

VCU connected on 48.3 percent of its field goal attempts in the first half, and drilled 10-of-13 tries from the free-throw line to take a 44-28 lead as the teams broke for the intermission. St. Bonaventure hit 33.3 percent of its shots in the frame, including just 2-of-8 from 3-point distance.

The Rams upped their shooting accuracy in the second half to 53.6 percent, which including a sub-par 3-of-11 performance from distance. The Bonnies netted 56.7 percent of their tries from the floor in the period, but still lost ground to VCU as the Rams coasted to victory.

VCU outscored St. Bonaventure from the free-throw line, 19-9, and in points off turnovers, 31-14. The Bonnies held the advantage in points in the paint, 42-36.
