Recap: Toledo vs. Eastern Mich

Toledo, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - Rian Pearson scored 17 points and pulled down 12 rebounds as Toledo captured a 77-66 win over the Eastern Michigan Eagles as the Rockets secured a share of the Mid-American Conference regular-season title at Savage Hall.

Pearson also accounted for four assists and four steals as well for the Rockets (26-5, 14-4 MAC), while Justin Drummond led all scorers with 22 points and matched Julius Brown (13 points) with seven assists. Also scoring in double figures for the host was Jonathan Williams who converted 4-of-6 behind the 3-point line for his 12 points in 22 minutes of action.

With the victory, their third straight and the fifth in the last six outings, the Rockets matched Western Michigan atop the West Division standings.

As for the Eagles (18-13, 10-8), who had a three-game win streak come to an end, they were paced by Karrington Ward with 20 points, followed by Raven Lee and Mike Talley with 14 and 12 points, respectively, the latter adding a game- high eight assists in the setback.

Both teams had a hard time finding the basket in the first half, as EMU converted just 36.7 percent from the floor and the Rockets 34.5 percent. However, of Toledo's 10 field goals, eight came from 3-point range as it claimed a 35-32 advantage at the break. The Eagles knocked down 6-of-11 on the perimeter in the period in order to keep the game close.

In the second half the Rockets turned in a much better effort from the field at 50 percent and while the visitors converted a more respectable 48.0 percent, they also connected on only 7-of-14 at the free-throw line.

Eastern Michigan, which led by as many as six points midway through the first half, finished with 15 turnovers, which the hosts converted into 20 points.
