Recap: Southern Utah vs. Montana State

Cedar City, UT (SportsNetwork.com) - Flavien Davis scored a game-high 16 points and drained the game-winning bucket in the final minute, as the Montana State Bobcats edged the Southern Utah Thunderbirds, 54-52, in Big Sky Conference action at Centrum Arena.

Eric Norman tallied nine points and 11 rebounds for Montana State (10-10, 5-4 Big Sky), which snapped a three-game losing streak.

A.J. Hess netted 14 points as SUU's (1-18, 0-10 Big Sky) dreadful season continued. The Thunderbirds have lost 18 straight since winning their opener and have yet to beat a Division I opponent.

SUU's bid to end its losing streak start off promising, as it carried a 24-20 lead into intermission, shooting 55.8 percent from the field in the first half. Montana State, meanwhile, shot only 22.6 percent in the opening frame but kept the game close by attempting 13 more field goals than the hosts.

The teams endured a back-and-forth second half. The Thunderbirds led by one with just over eight minutes to play before Davis gave the Bobcats a one-point lead on a layup, and while SUU would tie the game several ties down the stretch, it would never again hold the lead. Hess drained a pair of free throws with 45 seconds left to knot the score at 52, setting up Davis' game- winning jumper with 30 seconds to play. SUU held possession in the waning seconds, but Race Parson's 3-pointer was off the mark.

SUU was plagued by a game-high 20 turnovers.
