DeKalb, IL (SportsNetwork.com) - Behind a game-high 25 points from Kris Brewer, the Kent State Golden Flashes outlasted the Northern Illinois Huskies in overtime, 73-64, in Mid-American Conference action at the Convocation Center.

Brewer shot 6-of-13 from the field and 10-of-12 from the free-throw line for Kent State (11-5, 2-1 MAC), winners of back-to-back games. Derek Jackson finished with 14 points for the visitors, while Devareaux Manley scored 10.

For NIU (7-8, 1-2), Aaron Armstead tallied a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds, while Travon Baker and Aaric Armstead netted 13 and 12 points, respectively.

Neither team shot greater than 40 percent from the field in the opening stanza and the game went to intermission knotted up at 30.

NIU appeared to take control early second half, as it held a 13-point lead, 49-36, with under 10 minutes to play, but Kent State pieced together a furious 18-2 run over the next five minutes to take a two-point advantage with 5:06 to play. The Huskies again held the lead, 58-55, with under a minute remaining before Manley drilled a 3-pointer with 39 seconds left to tie the game up. NIU turned the ball over on its last possession of regulation and the contest went to overtime.

The Golden Flashes set the tone early in the extra session with a 7-0 run to start the frame, and they shot 7-of-8 from the free-throw line in the final 1:15 to put the game on ice.

NIU had a better percentage from 3-point range (.417) than Kent State (.370), but the Golden Flashes drained 10 long-range buckets compared to just five for the Huskies.
