Recap: Northern Ariz vs. Portland State

Flagstaff, AZ (SportsNetwork.com) - Max Jacobsen led the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks with 19 points and four assists in their 77-56 win over the Portland State Vikings in a Big Sky Conference matchup at Walkup Skydome.

Kris Yanku scored 17 points and grabbed five rebounds as a reserve for the Lumberjacks (8-9, 5-1 Big Sky), who have now won four straight. Quinton Upshur netted 12 points on 5-of-7 shooting from the field and Gaellan Bewernick poured in 10 and had a team high seven rebounds. He helped lead the Lumberjacks to a decisive 36-21 rebounding margin.

Gary Winston scored 13 points to lead the Vikings (7-8, 2-4), who had their two-game win streak snapped. Brandon Cataldo put up 10 points but no other Viking player scored more than seven.

It was a closely-contested first half that ended up tied at 31 after Jacobsen scored on a layup with 12 seconds left before intermission. The Vikings shot 46.2 percent from the field in the opening frame compared to 48.3 percent for the Lumberjacks.

The Lumberjacks pulled way early in the second half, building up a 52-37 lead midway through the frame, and they cruised to the victory from there.

NAU shot 58.9 percent from the field for the game and scored 50 points in the paint, while the Vikings shot 39.6 percent from the field and scored 24 points in the paint.
