Recap: Northern Ariz vs. Southern Utah

Flagstaff, AZ (SportsNetwork.com) - Quinton Upshur had 20 points and seven rebounds as the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks beat the Southern Utah Thunderbirds, 64-57, in a Big Sky Conference showdown at the Walkup Skydome.

Aaseem Dixon scored 16 points for the Lumberjacks (10-13, 7-5 Big Sky), who have won two of their last three games. Max Jacobsen added 11 points and Gaellan Bewernick cleared 12 rebounds.

John Marshall logged 10 points for the Thunderbirds (1-19, 0-11), who have lost 19 straight contests and last beat a Division I foe on February 23 of last season. Casey Oliverson brought down six rebounds.

NAU shot 53.8 percent from the field in the first half, and led 33-27 at the intermission. SUU made 55 percent of its field goal attempts but attempted six fewer shots.

The Lumberjacks connected on just 21.7 percent of their field goal tries in the second half, making just five shots, but they did go 19-of-20 from the free-throw line. After the Thunderbirds tied the game up at 49-49 with 5:13 left, NAU went on a 15-8 run to close the game and hold off SUU.

NAU did a better job on the glass as it held a 35-26 rebounding advantage. The Lumberjacks also had the edge at the free-throw line, 22-6.
