Recap: Weber State vs. Northern Ariz

Ogden, UT (SportsNetwork.com) - A 3-pointer by Quinton Upshur with 11 seconds remaining in overtime was just what the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks needed as they slipped by Weber State, 73-71, in Big Sky Conference action at the Dee Events Center.

Upshur finished the night with 26 points for the Lumberjacks (13-16, 10-8 Big Sky), hitting 5-of-9 shots behind the 3-point line for the visitors as they posted their second win in as many games. Also scoring in double figures for NAU was Max Jacobsen with 16 points before fouling out.

The Wildcats (16-10, 13-5) were hoping to wrap up the regular-season title in the Big Sky but they didn't plan on having their two-game win streak come to an end at home. Davion Berry gave it his all as he tallied 23 points, nine rebounds and four assists, while Jeremy Senglin and Richaud Gittens tacked on 18 and 11 points, respectively.

Weber State led by as many as five points in the opening moments of the first half, eventually shooting 6-of-12 behind the 3-point line in the period, but ended up trailing at the break by nine, 37-28. The visitors made good on 5- of-8 on the perimeter in the frame.

In the second half both teams shot better than 54 percent from the field and while WSU connected on only 1-of-6 beyond the arc, the team did outscore NAU at the free-throw line, 15-5. Trailing by two in the waning moments, Berry took control for the Wildcats and converted a layup to knot the score at 68-68 with just under 10 seconds remaining in regulation.

In overtime points were very hard to come by, yet all five for the visitors came from Upshur who started off the period with a successful layup before hitting the game-winner.

Northern Arizona was outscored at the free-throw line, 18-9, but made up for it with a 38-24 scoring edge in the paint.
